Hello to all.....found your forum via a link from the HomeImprovement section of Woodnet. Looks like my kinda place here.
Background:
Grew up remodeling with my dad......he'd buy a dog, we'd move in, remodel it and move again. Swore I'd never remodel anything again when I got away from him......note: never say never :)
Built my first new home in mid 70's after an Army tour and while attending college on GI Bill. This house was for wife and I. Liked doing that, and built some spec houses into the late 70's/early 80's. Got my GC license. Recession of early 80's made a vocational shop teacher out of me, but I did add-ons, sunrooms, basement finishes, etc while teaching..... Bought some land out from town and built another house for ourselves in 85, where we still live. Farm some, and bought a Woodmizer sawmill in 91 to harvest the timber on our place.
Quit teaching in 89 and went back to construction....mainly installing replacement windows and vinly soffit/siding. Built a fairly nice shop mid 90's and added cabinet building as a winter occupation. Been building some single family houses for rental/retirement income the last couple years......finishing up the 3rd one now. I do all the work from logging the timber, sawing the framing and cabinet lumber right on to the finish work. Only thing I still sub is the heat pumps and any carpet installed. Even make all the moulding, door jambs, etc out of native red oak. Makes a REAL nice rental......and rental income.
I'll try to be quiet for a while now and lurk awhile.....
