I am adding a bathroom on to my house and the bathtub/shower is going to be on an exterior wall. I am using a one piece tub/shower combo.
I was wondering if I attach the tub directly to the studs or do i put something behind it, water resistant sheetrock, etc.? The directions that came w/the tub are not real clear on what to do but it looks like they are saying to tie it directly to the studs.

thanks for any help.

I typically put it right to the studs with a vapor barrier between. Then when you drywall you can cover over the installation flange with mud. It makes for a much nicer installation.

Rich,

Will the insulation serve as a vapor barrier or do I need to add an additional vapor barrier?

thanks for the response

If the insulation is kraft faced you should be ok. If it's just plain batts then I would add the vapor barrier.

I guess kraft face is the paper on one side? If so that is what i'm using.

Thanks for you help rich.

Yep - sounds like you should be covered.
