i have a back door that i want to put a little roof over, i am not sure what this roof is called??
basically a little 3 foot wide by mabe 2 foot out from the wall by a foot high or something close to a 4/12 pitch??
the wall is currently sided and covers an older style framing that has 2x10 boards not partical board to connect to
does anyone have a design plan for this or can you tell me how to build it?? do i need to flash the top under the sidine?? how do i cut out the siding so it can reattach pver the new roof?? do i need a new starter strip or something??
seems like this would be easy but the more i think about it and look at it the more i realize there is more to it than i thought
thanks
How educated are you on tearing down stuff and re-building?

Buy an awning.

aw, come on guys...
I'm not even close to being experienced compared to these guys, but I would go around and look at how others have theirs done. If you don't know anyone that has one, look for houses with no cars in the driveway and take a look (heck, just knock on their door and ask them if you can look at it). I imagine, as far as the siding is concerned, it's just like putting in a window.

I am serious.
For a back door I'd buy an awning if I was inexperienced.
Hell yeah, there is a lot of work involved.

What about satisfaction? An awning doens't look nearly as good as a little roof. Then there's the learning to be had in doing it. Plus, it'll last a hell of a lot longer than an awning. I say go for it. you could build it on the ground, cut out a section of the siding and screw the thing in, then replace the siding around it. Let's hear how hard it can be.

Oh and trock, the name of that style roof is Shed Roof.

I'd say if it looks easy to you, - - tackle it.
If it looks hard, - - farm it out.
How easy or hard it looks to 'you', - - is the 'self-indicator'.
If you plan on doing all or most of your own projects for now on, - - it's a good-a-time as any to start with this one.
If it's gonna be a 'one-time' thing, - - do yourself a favor, and make the phone call.
The 'learning-curve' can be brutal!

Go for it. I think those kinds of projects are more worth the education and satisfaction than materials and time.

Giddonah makes a good point.
P.S. Glad your new 'table' found it's way!
P.P.S. And didn't have to be 're-routed'!!
