I using 5 1/4 hardy siding on my addition on my house and I was wondering how to trim out the windows. I am using windows w/the nail flange on them. I was just going to trim out w/a 1x4 to try and match the existing house but i don't know how to make the top and bottom match the sides since the top and bottom will be slanted back w/the siding. Any suggestions would be greatly apprectiated. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
thanks

Well, you can trim the window and allow the siding to butt up against the trim. That's what I've done in the past, but someone else may have a better idea.

Here is a hardi-plank house that I am building now and we just butted the hardi into the window. We will also dress the fron with shutters...
Sorry.. for some reason I can't upload the file here. Give an email address and I can send it to you.

Here's how we're doing it on my house:

Windows are trimmed with 1x4 MiraTEC on top and sides, 2x2 clear cedar with a 9* (I think) bevel ripped into it for the "sill." The Hardiplank is butted up against the MiraTEC.
Edit: the 1x4 MiraTEC and the cedar are spaced out from the wall with rips of 1/2" ply to give a total thickness of 1-1/4" so they stand proud of the windows by 1/4" to make them look beefier and facilitate caulking.

Thanks for yalls help. I was told to run the hardiplank upto the windows and then trim over them so the trim would stand out past the windows for caulking.
thanks
