I am going to pour a 3X3X3 foot (1 cubic yard) footing. I will insert 2' of a 4.5" X 8' schedule 40 square steel post, which will support a 6X12 beam, supporting the front corner of a house. The question is, how should I place rebar in this footing, to ensure structuctural integrity of the footing?
You will want to make a box of rebar. You will want to put stirrups (bands) vertically at something like 6-8" on center. Then put horizontal bands all the way around that at around 6-8" on center. Make sure to keep 3" clear on all sides. Tie that all together and place into your form.
Hope that helps.
