i have laminate running up to the top landing of a stair set, at the nosing should i leave expansion joints and finish with some type of parting strip transition, which seems like a trip hazard or do i run it tight in this one area? if i run it tight how do i fasten it around the stair nosing.i think expansion is a non factor as the expansion is free in all other directions but need to figure out a way to make the transition. thanks, bryan

Are you talking about that vinyl laminate that is like 1/4 " think? I remember that stuff from ages ago. It was in the kitchen of the house I grew up in.
Seems a little slick to be on stairs if so.

Sorry can't help you. I never touch the stuff.
I don't think expansion is an issue here at all. Wood laminate is pretty stable. I personally would cut it back and put in a solid wood tread that you can route a bullnose on. Make the cut back the same length as your treads on the rest of the stair.
