Well, the key to your costs are probably going to be the wood......if you plan to use "responsibly forested Chinese hardwood", ya might be better off just buying it..ahahahaaaa

But if you're like me and have a bandmill and a pretty good stock of lumber to play with, you could probably make it for a hundred bucks or so.....

My personal wood choices would be white oak or ash for strength, followed by cherry, walnut, etc.....
