What? Are you talking about a metal brake?

I guess you're talking about a circular saw.

'With brake' is much safer, - - it adds a 'second' protection if the guard sticks, - - and sooner or later it always does.

If the guard sticks, and you don't know it, and you set the saw on the floor still running, it'll not only tear up the floor, it'll try to take your toes off. Whether or not it does is simply a 'crap-shoot' that'll be completely out of your control.

The brake will also increase your odds in the case of any other 'kick-back' issue.

It's normally only $10-$20 more, - - and well worth it.

Was framing a house about 25 years ago as a younger carpenter......had a college kid helping me. We were using my Crapsman circular saw. He made a cut and kept the saw in his hand while turning to one side......the guard hung in the up position, and the saw blade, just coasting down, caught his leg just above the knee and ran up his thigh......laid it open like a filleted hunk of meat......very little blood actually as it ran beside the big vein that runs down your the top of the thigh.....but you could actually see the bone for about 12".

That saw went in the dumpster that day after I got back from the ER, and I've never used another without a brake.

That's the "pro"........I can't think of a con other than a few extra bucks.

I'm going to join grumpy in asking for a clarification.
