HI,
Not exactly flooring but I will be using ordinary ceramic tiles. I am putting a row of 4" ceramic tiles around a new propane fireplace I have installed. Is there anything I need to worry about in regards to heat? Any special adhesive? I have a backerboard installed.

Since there's been no replies, I'll chime in... We had a NG fireplace in our apartment in Denver. IIRC, there were tiles around the perimeter of it, perhaps like what you are talking about. They never even got warm. No special considerations, IMHO.
Whew - I'm missing all kinds of posts lately.
Anyway - bkrahmer has it right. Most likely you're using a zero clearance insert fireplace - no need to do anything differently with the hearth and surround.

It's true that if it's zero clearance you have no worries. However, if you are installing a mantle, be aware that you will probably need some minimum distance between the fireplace and the mantle itself. The manual would have all the specs. This isn't the question you asked, but I thought I'd mention it - just in case.
good luck.

12" up to any combustible material from the firebox. iirc it is 6" to the legs.
