View Full Version : Teak
Has anyone used teak inside a house?
I love the texture and color of it.

Real teak has become somewhat rare. Genuine teak comes from the rainforests of Southeast Asia.
The exotic market is booming with Beezus knows what. Be sure you are buying teak and not some who-knows -what that made you a victim of the current bastardization of commonly accepted terms

p.s. I will bet my butt that you will never see Brazilian cherries at your local grocery store. That is because the Jatoba tree is not a Cherry tree .The folks selling this lumber are just making up names.

Hey Cole,
I just finished loading 1200 sf of "Brazilian Teak" into my house for installation later on. Yes, I am aware that its not an actual "Teak" but merely a distant relative. Thats OK in my book. I love the look of it, its hard as hell and its a fast growth rate. Not the 14' per year like Lyptus but much faster than Oak.
Yeah - there aren't many Teak forestation projects going on... I believe there is only one actual legally recognized teak harvester left. An excellent alternative is jara wood - Australian. Same qualities as teak for durability and weather resistance - possibly a little more dense. And it's a beautiful wood to boot.
