When I build my house this summer, I have a concrete porch that is 20 x 8. The footers to this don't go as deep as the rest of the house. I have two questions. 1. When should I schedule this? Should I pour the footer for the house and the porch all at once. Or build the house, do a tempory brace for the porch roof and then build the porch after the house if dryed in. The other question was should I tie the block work for the porch into that of the house? The roof will be a saddle type roof, where the center section of our house will have larger trusses than that of the rest of the house. You can see the house at http://www.carterlumber.com/carlisle.html
After the floor of the first floor is framed up I would backfill and begin on the porch foundation. By the time the roof is going up you should have the porch finished with time to spare.
You should tie the porch blockwork into that of the house or you may have trouble with the connection of the 2 roofs.
Very nice looking plan btw.

That is a nice looking hosue plan. I would extend the masterbedroom out somewhat. Maybe an attached sun room.

It is amazing what you learn through this whole process. This will be our first house ( we rent now) and we actually have seriously looked at two other plans until I decided on this one. As a first house it is great, truss framing, easy lines. What really amazed me was the fact that the blueprints cost $50 for each set, they included the HVAC, Plumbing and Electric layouts for that specific house(Which wasn't the case for the extremely expensive plans that we have looked at before). Carter Lumber sells these as packages and what I couldn't believe is the acutal cost. For the house itself(excluding foundation) it will be $42,000. That includes everything except the floor coverings and paint. That price included an energy efficient option which we will get a higher grade Pella window, 2x6 construction, r-19 walls, high efficiency furnace and r-40 attic insulation. We going to have a good time this summer! :P
Wow.. that's pretty impressive. The architect fees on the house I'm working on now will be more than your whole house put together.
