I am installing a Homerwood 3/4" x 5" American Cherry hardwood floor. This is called "character grade". I am impressed with the quality of the wood, the lack of sapwood and the length of the pieces. There are some 'character' pieces with knothoes, for instance 1/4 to 1/2" wide holes, maybe 1/2" deep. I don't want to cut these out, I want to use them.

Is there some kind of filler or resin that is commonly used to fill in these holes that would dry rock-hard and be shiny? WHat do the manufacturers use? Where would you buy this and what would it be called?

I don't want the wax crayons and I don't want the 'plastic wood' filler. I want it to look like a resin. :)

I typically cut them out so I don't have to worry about them.

hmm...

If you want it to look like resin I'd use a clear or tinted laquer to fill the holes, or something like that.

You might want to test it on a spare piece and see how it looks.

Good to see someone else is going with something with character. We have oak harwood in the front halve of the house. The builder speced #2, saying that it had more character. At the time, didn't have a lot of money to argue, so we went with it. It was finished in place. I like it much more than the wood that in my relatives McMansion. His might as well be pergo, not that there is anything wrong with that, just not my preference.
