I have a 3 wire submersible well pump that recently went out. Along with the startup capacitor controls, this control box is part of the setup for the pump. There are 2 extra wires (+ground) going from this control box then down the well. Another set of wires connects to the pump’s cutoff breaker. It has been suggested to me that this relay is a load protector for the pump.

What can I expect down the well:
1. Could there be another devise down the well that this control hooks up to besides the pump? If so, what, and how would it be wired?
2. How would this be wired if it connects directly to the pump?

Thank you for your help!

All of your controls should be in one location, usually on or very near your tank.

All I've ever used for a submersible is a pressure switch.

there shouldn't be any thing else in the well except the pump and motor(one assembly) There will be a splice of the three wires going down to the pump and the three wires coming from the pump motor. It will be a splice and then a shrink wrap sleeve around each of the three wires. I am not exactly certain what this box does(besides serving as a relay) but it is integral to the pump.
