I am selling my house. We recently had an inspection done and the buyers are asking us to fix a drainage problem under the house. I am a novice at this type of work.

Problem: After a hard or continuous rain, the lower portion of my crawlspace has some standing water. After 24-48 hours the water will dissapate.

Question: Is there an inexpensive and easy fix to this?

I have been told that most likely thre is a drain there that might be clogged. If this is true will I simply need to clean it out?

I have thought about taking a 3' section up each side of the foundation wall in the corner with the water problem and digging down about 8". Then install a small section of corrugated pipe. Then drilling a hole big enough to lead a 2" pvc pipe out the foundation that grades away from the house. Then filling in over top of the corrugated pipe with gravel. Does this sound like a viable option?

Thanks for any help.

If there is enough room under there I would probably dig in a sump pit. Of course then you need a pump and all that.
The only problem with what you've suggested is that is the water is there - it's probably more of a problem than just an 8" trench. Of course if you just want to get it sold - then it'll probably work just fine. Just put in the contract "as-is with no implied or express warranty".
