we are having a custom home built. the great room is off center. ie: the front door does not match up to the center of the gable and the fireplace on the opposite wall is not centered. the builder wants to remove the wall where the front door is located to recenter and then use dry wall to hide the off center fire place. the builder has stated that the problem started with the basement/foundation being off by a few inches. what is most noticable is that the roof truss on one side of the room does not meet up with the wall. i am really not sure how deal with this situation. any help would be appreciated.

The first questions are -
Who made the mistake and who is going to pay for it? If it's the foundation that's off - and the builder framed to the foundation (i.e. changed the framing) then IMO the trusses should have been ordered to match the new conditions. You should have been notified of the change right away. If the change was acceptable to you - then the builder should have coordinated the rest of the framing to match the new conditions.
Just remember - somebody is to blame and it's not you.
