Are there any mitre saws out there that can handle timber sizes of 330*130mm? I don't mind flipping the sleepers and making 2 passes but can any of the current saws accomodate a sleeper under the blade and sliders? Any help would be appreciated.

I've never used one, but this looks cool as hell: http://www.praziusa.com/beamcutter.html

Hitachi makes a 16" chop saw that should be able to handle it - pretty wicked machine when it gets up to full revolutions.

But I bet you can't picture the Hitachi in a horror movie.

I have used one of those prazi beam cutters.

It is awesome.

To be honest with you, I was intimated by the size of it.

Thanks for that info guys. That Prazi monster looks a bit evil so I'm gonna try and stick with my circular and work on improving my cutting technique!

you can go with a bigger circ if you don't want the murder weapon.

I wouldn't waste the money on a beam circular saw - every one of them that I've used has been underpowered and I spent more time waiting for it to get back up to revs to cut the next 1/2".

Plus it just looks stupid.

Chainsaw, anyone?

I was thinking that, but like Rich said he didnt ask about other options.

It does take a certain level of skill as well...

That's for certain Dragon. I hired a friend of mine once to slash some units. Started working at 6am - he calls down to me at 9am and says he's cut his knee. I asked if he could work until Noon :)
He said I better come look at it. It was right across the kneecap - pretty nasty looking. I said that he could probably work until noon unless he couldn't walk on it. He could walk on it.. anyway - right at 12 sharp he calls down to me and says "Hey - it's noon" haha. It was starting to fill up with sawdust so we went back to town. Got there about 1 and went to the restaurant his Mom worked at. I had 3 waitresses hold him down and I scrubbed it out with some peroxide and an old toothbrush that was sitting on the shelf.. LMAO. Put some butterfly stitches on there and some kind of ointment. I cleaned up and said - "I'll see you in the morning" and left. Don't think he quite knew what to think... but he was back at it the next day. I ended up firing him a few weeks later.
