I recently moved into a house constructed int he 1950s. The attic has been converted to a room. However the rafter framing and joist framing behind the knee walls are 2x4s. Does this present any danger in how I can use the attic or for what uses the attic may be put to?

Is this construction adequate to use the attick as a library/study or do the joist and rafter framing need to be strengthen?

Thank you in advance for any advice you may offer.

It really depends on if there are weight bearing walls below the floor/ceiling joists.. and what the spacing between them are. I wouldn't personally want to setup a library space up there where there would be large amounts of weight from books and the like. Again depending on span between weight bearing walls would govern what size floor joist I would use.
