I am going to be mounting the main electrical panel in the back wall of the attached garage(new contruction). There will be about 25 circuits. What is the best way to run all of the main feeds into the main part of the house? Should I run them along the top of the plate or build a small cable tray to run just above the cross ties on the rafters? Should they be split up and run around different walls? Any insight would sure be appreciated.

Really, it is hard to know your situation. If there is a long run from the panel to the house(where the circuits would diverge), then a nice neat cable tray would be good. If the circuits are heading in all directions pretty much immediately, then try to group them. I dont know why they would need to go all the way to the cross ties for the rafters though.

One suggestion: don't try to tightly group a bunch of wires together. You run the risk of overheating them. Personally, I think a better spot for a panel is somewhere more central in the house. Considering the fact that the wires need to be supported for the horizontal run, I would probably drill 1" holes every six inches or so, and run about 4 circuits through each hole. I think it's quicker running them through joists then stapling them every 3 feet.

the Cleanest way to do this and follow NEC codes would be to run 3 #6awg wires to a distribution Lug pannel in the garage@ 120VAC 60A . just dont bond the neutral to the ground on install. you can even install a fusable disconnect switch to completly shut-down the garage in one swoop as long as it states its suitable for service enterance equipment. just remember to use a ridged or IMT metal conduit with proper terminations and i belive the code counduit fill rules would state you could do it in a single 3/4" conduit hence a single 3/4" hole... the inspector might even kiss you :P

General, I think you misunderstood the question. This is his main panel. It sounds like you are talking about a subpanel.

I have decided to move the panel closer to the house on the side wall of the garage. That will solve the problem with a large number of runs going the same way. They can all split off from that point much easier. A little longer trench and more SE wire but I agree that it will make it easier.
Thanks for the input.
