View Full Version : Schluter Ditra
Does anyone have any experience with this product, Schluter Ditra? Any pro's or con's that you have seen or heard? One of my suppliers told me about it. They claim its the new best thing. Supposed to eliminate dura rock.
I've seen it used quite a bit.. it's not really that new. First time I saw it used was about 5 or 6 years ago in Montana. Well I shouldn't say it was the same product but the function was exactly the same and it was even the same orange color.

I have used DITRA on three tiling projects in my home. I have 24" OC engineered I-Beam floor joists. DITRA is the only approved product for tile application by the TCA (Tile Council of America) in my situation.
My projects were done over about 3 years, so I used the 3/16" ridged version and also the latest 1/8" grid version. I have been very happy with the results. I have used large format tiles for all three jobs (12" and 14" porcelain).
The only downside is that, of course, you have to mix lots of mortar to apply the DITRA and then the tile. (Cementitious backer units have to be mortared in place as well, so, it is not much more mortar for DITRA.) This is after adding plywood (glue and screw) to the subfloor to bring the thickness to 1 1/8" minimum as I recall.
But, I am confident that if my house were to collapse, the tiled floors would remain intact. They are not going anywhere.
We really love the results.
Happy to provide additional info if you have additional questions.
Also, it is not cheap, but is very easy to work with.

Must be the same company that makes all the fancy edges for ceramic tiling. I looked up Schluter on the web just yesterday because I was in a tile store and saw a number of different profiles I didn;t even know existed. The web site was informarive.
