In our master bathroom we will have a whirlpool tub with a shower next to it along one wall. Are most of these types of showers built using shower pans or the rubber membranes? Which would be better over the long run. By the way our plans are to have two walls done in tile and the door and whirlpool side of the shower out of glass.

Not to intrude on your thread VALENT, but I wonder the same thing. I've heard you can just lay the tile on a concrete floor so no need for a membrane, but that worries me about the water seeping under the plate and into the adjacent room.

Are you going to be I concrete or wood sub-floor?

mine will be on wood. I am definitely leaning toward using a fabricated shower pan.

Most everyone around here uses shower pans w/tile or Cultured marble surrounds. Or 1 piece Pre-fab units-but those options can limit you on custom showers.
Otherwise I would use a membrane

thanks n2deep. That is my plan but I just wondered.

What about hot mop? That's what I see the most

I'm not familiar with a 'hot-mop' method for a shower either, (it sounds way secondary to a membrane to me), - - but I'd be interested to hear more, - - but if you wanted to do a custom shower, - - you would definitely want to use a membrane under a dry mortar bed, - - but that's pretty specialized work, - - not really worth the learning curve for a 1-time installation, - - I'd stick with a pre-fab base for your situation.

Normally they are for all wildlife, not just one species specifically.
