.. i know that im going to use a dedicated circuit, but whats the "ARC" circuit ive read about?

I think you're talking about arc-fault circuit interruptors (AFCI). In most localities, AFCIs are required for all outlets and lights in bedrooms. Some states, like ID, specifically excluded the requirement for AFCIs on smoke detector circuits. I also wired my smoke detectors on a dedicated circuit.

Where we are building in Colorado we are required to use the Arc breakers for the smoke detectors also. The detectors must also be on a dedicated circuit.
How did we live this long without all these government regulations to "protect" us?

Up here also it must be on a dedicated circuit but a few months ago I had to kill the power to my fire alarm and the TV went out with it. So much for dedicated circuit ina fairly new condo.
