We are thinking of adding a small addition off the side of our house which is 1940s brick. The addition would be for the length of the house. This side of the house has an outside brick chimney breast which will be in the middle of the new room which does not present a problem. The chimney is used for venting furnace exhaust (there are no fireplaces in the house). We would like to open up this new room addition as much as possible to the existing adjacent room in the house but do not know if this is feasible (i.e. how difficult is it to remove the walls either side of the chimney?). Thanks for any advice.
