Is it necessary to put rebar in sidewalks and the apron in front of the garage? Also how thick should these be poured? The ground is very sandy.
Personally I always recommend putting rebar in any slab and even sidewalks. Sidewalks a minimum of 4" and I personally think aprons and garage slabs should be 6".

I would definately reinforce the apron but the sidewalk could go either way. I over do most things, but I'd add an extra inch to the sidewalk if you're going to go without reinforcement.

I think the 4" sidewalk would be fine if you used steel wire mesh in it instead of the re-bar, but that's only my opinion. You have to make sure that the wire stays suspended in the concrete when you do the pour.

I've used both if they were on hand...overkill I guess :?:
But that's how I was shown how to do it on a government job I worked (college I went to).
