Hi
My next door neighbours house aproximately 12 feet away from my house and about 3 feet above my ground level.
I want to level the ground on my side to the fence line and build a retaining wall.
how close can i go without effecting their foundations?
how deep does my retainer need to be?
is 12 inch block enough?
thanks in advance.
Paul.

Most cities have codes that set how close you can do any work near the property line. Here, we have a code that says that we cannot alter the flow of water. Be sure to check the code in your town to find out if what you are doing is subject to any code violation. I would think you'd be able to get a city inspector out who could tell you exactly what you can and can't do in building a retaining wall.

Thanks for the advice, I'll get somebody out to have a look.
probably best if i get somebody else to do the work as well, as i'll probably make both houses collapse.
cheers, Paul.
