Hallo -

has anyone had experience running (any kind of) ceiling molding against log walls. I'd appreciate any input how you guys delt with the irregularities of the logs against the flat ceiling.

Thank you

Here's what I've done in the past - you can adjust the 2x material to line up in the best way with the logs and also adjust the height of the 1x running against the logs to best hide everything.

If you want to spend a little more money/time you can also apply another piece on the bottom side and scribe into the log. I was trying to find a picture of a log cabin I did up in Montana - must've been on my old computer. It turns out really nice but takes a while to scribe. When I did it - I pushed the crown and trim out a couple inches to make it look like a built-up crown and then on the bottom cap piece I back beveled at a 45 degree angle to make it easier to scribe. Using a utility knife to scribe the line in the finish and a grinder to remove the material... pretty easy once you get a system going.

I'm not a fancy pants type of person, really, so I'm not the best judge of these types of things... But, what is crown molding doing on a log wall? :) They don't seem to go together stylistically, to me. JMHO, thinking out loud...

Thanks Rich ... that's a sweet detail! Exactly what I was looking for.

bkrahmer ... my two choices, at least as I see them, are to work forever on the transition between the (sheetrock) ceiling and the (log) walls... plaster, caulking and REALLY careful not to get (2 coats of) primer or finish coat on the logs. Not easy to clean... or try a molding to hide it. With Rich's detail I'll definitly do the moldings.

Thanks again ...

Take some pictures when you're done so we can see how it turned out.
