View Full Version : Metal stud
I am bidding on a 10' x 12' police dept interview room with 10' high. The room will be sound proof. The specs call for metal stud 3-5/8 20ga. Does anyone know anything about metal stud? I never use it before. And how do you price for something like that?
Thanks
Call your local light gauge framing supplier.. number wise it's the same as wood studs except for the top and bottom tracks. Cut the studs 1/4" - 1/2" short. Install the top and bottom track then install the studs. Are they asking for resilient channel over the studs? Or some type of isolation between metal and drywall?

Don't forget that electrical wiring is different with metal studs. You use sheet mrtal screws to attach the studd to the top and bottom plate. Sheet metal snips and a screw gun and you are away.

One difference with my company regarding metal vs wood stud quotes; according to my boss, due to fluctuations in metal stud costs my boss insists on a 15 day quote for metal stud vs 30 day for wood. We're a commercial GC so 90% of our work is metal stud. Methinks he is just trying to push the envelope & speed the signing process.

My local Home Depot stocks them. YOu can probably call them to get a decent idea of pricing.
