Ok. I am wondering how I would go about hooking up my phone line to my thermostat.

The goal is to be able to check and insure my home is above the min temp so my pipes dont freeze.

And to just call and get a ring or busy signal would achieve this nicely.

Maybe a new market for this for you creative ones.

This is a duplicate post That I had in the Home Systems Forum. I thought it may be better served here as an afterthought.

Something like that has been around for years but for the life of me I can't remember the name. We had a situation where a cottage owner had an alarm system that when it got too cold a security company would check it out. All the sensors were placed where most of the plumbing was. In the basement where the hot water tank was, water pump, washing machine. I thought it was in a good position. WRONG!!!! The furnace went out and eventutaully the temp in the basement did get cold enough to activate the alarm. By the time the alarm in the basement was activated all the water lines and toilets had burst because they got cold first.
Be very carefull where you put the sensors.

Exactly what I am trying to simply avoid is a situation like the one you mentioned.

It just seems the phone line could be routed through the thermostat. and if it is above 52 then ring for hours. If it is below fail to connect and give a busy signal.

Thanks roger g for replying. I bet your right and someone has this thing all figured out and I can probably buy a kit. To late for any marketable solution im afraid.

The one I can't remember was hooked to the telephone lines and you could phone your cottage and turn up the heat over the phone so when you got there it would be toasty. It might have had the ability to notify you as well . This was 10-15 years ago and a lot of things have changed since then. Also, these big real estate companies that own buildings all over the world have all their mechanical systems all hooked up by satelite so one guy in one office can see AND control any and all the systems.
The technology is out there. I would contact your phone company because they should be aware of the technologies that would use their phone lines.

Honewell has a modem interface for that. You may need a new thermostat.
