View Full Version : 30x30 cabin with 6/12 open roof plan a/c question
im building a 30x30 metal frame cabin with 6/12 pitch roof all open roof, with loft bedroom. do you guys think i need a central a/c unit or could get by with a good window unit? I will be insulating the whole building, walls and roof with spray in foam insulation.. thanks...

What is the cabin location? What is the weather like? What are the insulation R-factors?
I can not suggest a good plan of attack without seeing the HVAC load calculations.
Sorry, you just are not giving enough info.
bandera ,tx spray in icenyne insulation(not sure of the r-value 3.5 per inch maybe??) in walls and ceilings, it gets pretty hot in the summer. 100 -118 degrees.

central air with duct work. Your problem will be the loft area and bedroom. Thats where all the heat ends up.
we will probably use a window unit at first, while we get situated and mount it in the loft window so the cold air will be inthe bedroom. then as we build we will ad a central later. im thiniking a 28,000 btu window unit, what do you guys think? overkill? 30x38 all open space, the loft is not enclosed.

The only way of knowing is by doing a load calculation on the building. I don't guess at thing like that.
