lights flicker

When my ac turns on my lights will sometimes flicker. Is this normal or do I have a problem somewhere.

Do they actually flicker, or just dim? If they flicker, I would be concerned that there may be a loose connection somewhere, possibly in main panel or meter socket. If they just dim, that's different, this is very common and has a number of causes and sometimes trying to "cure" this perceived problem is futile. Sometimes the dimming can be reduced by installing a "soft start" or installing a "hard start" capacitor kit on the a/c compressor but doing so results in modifying the ac equipment and usually doesn't completely eliminate the dimming. Sometimes moving the double pole breaker to the top of the panel helps somewhat but not always. But again, if the lights flicker, like someones turning them on and off briefly, I would be concerned about a loose connection, which is a hazard. Dimming lights due to the ac coming on is usually not a potential hazard.
