Hello,
We want to cover our patio with a matching roof of our house. The patio slab is 14' out from the house and 30' long. Because of an existing slab that was poured with the new house (a very small one) the posts for the three posts for the roof are being placed at each end corner and the third one is 18' from one corner and 12' from the other corner so it is not in the middle (also did not want a post directly in front of the patio door). My question is--what size of Glu-Lam beam is needed for the 18' span? We will use the same size but shorter for the 12' side so that side we know will be overbuilt, but want to keep it the same.
The structure above the Glu-Lam will be trusses that are 2' high connected to the house and down to 4" at the end and will be 16' long resting on the Glu-Lam at the 14' mark with a 2' overhang. The trusses will be spaced at 2' intervals. The house is in the Seattle, WA area and gets some snow occaisionally. Any help on this will be appreceiated! 8)
Thanks - Gene
