Ok, I think we have this pretty much figured out except I have another question and maybe the experts can help me out a little more here, and I do appreciate the help. I need to know how you would attach these trusses to the existing wall/house studs? We will remove the existing siding (it is a brand new house) to expose the studs and insulation.
Thanks - Gene

Gene,
First of all the plans should tell you all this. Next question is, is the new outside wall the same height as the existing new 2x6 wall and if so why weren't the trusses made 5-1/2" longer to sit on top of the wall?
If the walls don't line up at the top and the trusses are to butt up against the house like your drawing shows, there has to be some kind of structural ledger bolted to the house to supprt the trusses which has to be desigend by the Architect of Engineer and not you or anyone of us.

Joe,
The house is already built in a subdivision. We are going to add the small trusses to the existing side of the house for a patio cover. So are you saying that a 2 x 4 or similar should be placed against the existing wall studs and then the tail of the truss to sit on them? We can do that and then how to attach the rest of the truss? Metal plates screwed or nailed on both side of the truss and the wall studs? This is also a 2 story house, so where these will connect are directly onto 2 x 6 wall studs 16" OC.
