I've noted that the 2x4s used for the framework of my new home under construction are not all one piece. They have jagged edges that are jointed, I presume with some sort of super strong special carpenter glue? Is this standard practice? :?: Some of the 2x4's have two or three connected pieces.??
Yes, standard practice.
Finger-jointed lumber in 2x4 or 2x6 studs is effective because it uses shorter pieces of wood that might otherwise have become waste and makes straighter lumber that is less likely to warp.

Also, if those boards are used as studs, then they're almost exclusively going to be experiencing compression forces, which will just push the joints together. If you see them using something like that for a horizontal beam to carry any kind of load, which will bend the board, then start asking questions.
