I have noticed that the shingles are starting to go on my house. I figured let me just pop in a couple of shingles in place of some really bad ones until I reroof it in September. (don't want to do it in the summer). While doing my thing, I found the previous owner had 4 layers of shingles on there. Just wanted to ask, weight problems on the side, etc.,.... could this be part of the reason my two upstairs rooms are always really hot? There is roof venting, but I was just curious if this many layers is keeping the roof from shaking a little heat off?

More than likely. Weight is the main concern. Also most insurance cos wont insure more than 2. They claim that when hail hits, more than 2 is too soft for the outer layer and it pits.

And in most places more than 3 layers is against building code.
I once tore a roof off that had 17 layers, 21 in places. The nails on the final layers werent even reaching the decking. They kept having problems so kept putting on another layer. It was hilarious.
Wow, are you kidding me, Dragon?

I doubt it has any impact on the heat in your attic. For the increase in cooling time there should be an increase in heating time.
