Take a look at these trees. They are oak and some scattered gumball. I need to stump up about 13 of them. The Bobcat sounds like a winner. Can it work for me? I have been told that these trees will come up really easily just by digging on one side and pushing from the other. Sounds too easy but it might just work. I wouldn't know. Has anyone else tried it? Also, I have about 45 additional trees that will need to be cut. That's alot of stumps to grind. I plan to rent a stump grinder myself and do the grinding. I have seen the grinder in use several times and feel like I could handle the job with a little instructional guidance to get started. Am I being way too ambitious?
It will work, but get ready for some work.

hunt, I am unclear from your post if you plan to push these trees over and dig out the stump or cut them and grind the stumps.

I plan to have about 13 - 15 trees cut and then stumped up. The remainder of the trees will only need to be ground up by the stump grinder. I can rent a stump grinder for $125 a day and a BobCat for $150 a day. My relatives tell me that I should just pay someone to do the whole job. I do have someone cutting the trees but I still believe that I can do the grinding and stumping myself at an exceptional savings. Not to mention, the added experience of using the equipment by myself may prove to be of great use later. It's not like I am unlearned (for ex: I served 4 yrs in the U.S. Marines distinguishly, I have a Bachelors in Mathematics, a Masters in Mathematics and a Masters in School Administration) or not able to learn the necessary skills to operate the equipment. Actually, I think doing the work myself would be a welcomed challenege not to mention fun. :D
Go for it. I think you can handle it.

I really think a bobcat is going to have a hard time digging up the stumps of those pictured trees. You definitely will be able to operate the stump grinder and do a good job. However, if you plan on building above the 13-15 trees, these need to be dug out completely and the ground compacted when filled.
