I have a makita cordless drill, and I want to drill a hole that is perfectly straight so that when i put a dowel in the whole, it is at 90 degrees to the wood. The problem is that i'm always off a few degrees and the dowl is crooked. I guess if i had a drill press I could do this, but i'm wondering if anyone has any advice? . . . Thanks!

you can get a "drill press" that will do that for you with your hand drill.

yup
but I actually had that in mind, that's the place Rich recommended for the router table. Google just helped me find it again, couldn't remember where I saw it.

Personally, I set a combination square with the ruler section flush with the 90 degree movable part, set it down on the work, and just run the back of the drill down the leg of the square sticking up.
But I could go buy another tool I'd use once in a blue moon, and wouldn't know where the heck I'd left it....

They also make a plunge tool for standard drills so you can get exact holes without buying a DP.
