Hello, I'm new to this site...looks pretty cool. Anyway, I'm looking to add a 14' x 30' room to the front of my coachman r v. I'm wondering if I need to pour footings, or if I can put it on piers that just sit on the ground and the 4x4's go on top. The trailer sits on concrete blocks, so I'm thinking if I pour footings to the freeze line, the room will stay put and the trailer will go up and down with the seasons. If I keep everything above ground then in theory it should all move together. I'm thinking of not fastening the walls to the trailer, just filling the 2"gap with foam rubber. But the roof I think needs to be flashed over and sealcoated. The room will have 3 1/2" studs and insulated walls with paneling and windows. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jack
Sounds like a fun project.
I think what you have planned will work.
Oh btw, welcome to the forum.

if this is in chicago I think you might have some problems with the roof if the two structures move independently. If they are sealed, will it be flexible to allow movement? If they aren't sealed, you might have a problem with ice backing up under the flashing? I'm not sure, I'm just commenting.

Thanks giddonah, I was wondering if that would be a problem. I am thinking of setting the roof about 5" higher than the trailer but flush with the edge. This way the flashing will be under the ice water sheild and roofing then come down the 5" and lay on the trailer roof. The flashing on the trailer roof will be attached with flashing cement. Or should I use something more flexible ? Do you have any suggestions ? I'm all ears. Thanks, Jack

I don't think the D.O.T. is going to let you pull that down the road...

Hey Guys, I have started the framing of the 3 season room. I'm looking for advice on insulating the floor. The floor framing is 2x8's 16" o.c.. One end is basically on the ground. The other is about 2' above ground. The plywood is 3/4". I will be using indoor outdoor carpet. I will be heating the room with a woodburning stove, so maybe I don't need to insulate the floor. Thanks, Jack

I think insulation would be well worth the effort unless you truly plan to only use it for three seasons.

Wondering if I can use 6 mil. visqueen in place of tyvek on the 3 season room ? I have a roll laying around so I could save $$$$. Or would moisture be a problem ? Thanks, Jack

Hey jack, Rigid has a styrofoam board you can put between your floor joists to insulate your floor pretty well, they sell it in all different widths..You can buy it at any home improvement shop
