We had a leak from the roof about 5 years ago due to roof damage. We had the roof repaired and reshingled and have had no further leaks. However, in the kitchen there is a stain on the ceiling about 4ft by 3in and a small stain circle about 3inches in diameter at the other end of the kitchen due to the earlier roof damage. I really don't like the idea of repainting the whole kitchen ceiling to take care of the two stains. Is it possible to just paint over the two problem areas with satisfactory results. Has anyone had this problem before and resolved it without painting the kitchen ceiling over? Any suggestions?

If you use the same exact paint that is up there now you might be able to get a decent result, but don't count on it being perfect. I had to deal with ceiling stains in a couple of rooms, but I was redoing the entire rooms. The stains went away after 5-6 coats

Youll have to get a good stain blocking primer first like linzer. Then hit it with paint. Water stains are very stubborn.

I appreciate the comments. I may try to get started in the next few days.
