I'm going to be pooring a monolithic pad for a 24x26 detached garage. I'm planning to have approx. 2" of slope from back to front. In addition, I plan to place a single row of block on top of the pad to lift the walls of the ground. Don't know why, but it didn't occur to me that my entire garage will be slanted do to using the monolithic poor. How is this handled? Do I shim the sill plate to get it level?
thanks
You cut the block to be at the same level. Or pour a curb (level) with your monolithic slab. There have been several recent posts on hanging a form for a curb.

Im assuming 26' is your length... What you would want to do is buy 4 2x6 x16' both sidesor whatever you want you curb highth to be... and 2x4 for the back... cut your 2x6's to where you have 25',24' depending on how wide you want your curb.. cause you dont want to forget about the other 2 or 1 side tieing into the inner curb.... anyway lay them out butt ended and say if you wanted a 3 1/2' curb in the back. That would give you a 5 1/2 at the front... So make a mark at 3 1/2 and pop you chalk line to 5 1/2 ... 25', 24' however far down you want.. and that will give you the slope for you slab and the levelness of the curb... I have an excellent idea on curb brackets to hold up your forms..
...but ill be here all day....good luck...

Hi Tykster,
Thanks for the note. I'm a little confused still though. As you suggested, the garage is going to be 24'wide x 26'long. Therefore, the 2" slope will run back to front for the 26' length. I am looking for a very modest curb as you suggest of about 3 to 5 inches. I may even decide to forgoe the curb all together if it's too difficult, but I still have to somehow compensate for the 2 inches of slope.
If I understand your suggestion, I would use a couple of 2x6's butted together for the 26' length (minus the curb widths). I would run this level as the inside portion of the curb. I would chalk line the slope on the side of the 2x6's. I think I missing something, because this doesn't quite make sense. If I did as I interprete, my 2x6 would be sunk into the pad a couple of inches in the rear wear the curb height is only 3 inches. Secondly, this would mean I level the pad to a chalk line and not to the height of the form. I'm assuming I'm getting this wrong, could you describe where you think I'm mistaken.
thanks

You have the idea of getting your levelness of the curb by butting them together.. Where you popped you chalk line on the 2x6's thats where you would make you cut.. Cut the 2x6's from one end at
3 1/2" and 26' down would be 5 1/2 and your concrete would be placed to the bottom of you ripped 2x6's

ok, I understand. I didn't catch that I needed to rip the butted 2x6's, makes sense. One other question; When I poor, am I going to have problems with the concrete wanting to push down the stem wall back into the pad. I assume I need to poor this fairly dry.

Hi Tykster,
Thanks for your efforts. Unfortunately, I don't see the image in your last post. Not sure if thats me or it didn't post correctly.
I'm not sure why the email didn't work either. In case you couldn't tell, there is an underscore (_) between dav_wu.
thanks
