I have a chimney that the old furnace and hot water tank used to vent. I have since vented them outside. The chimney is completely on the interior of the house and covered by drywall . I have since vented them outside. the chimney goes threw the kitchen and the bathroom . I am getting ready to gut the kitchen and bath . Is it worth tearing out the chimney for the extra space while i have access to it, or should I forget about it?
If it was me, I would tear it out.

A few months ago we had a discussion about tearing out chimneys from the bottom. If I remember correctly it was take down what you can see on the roof and maybe the attic and the rest should just collapse down inside the walls as you smash away at the bottom. I know some of the guys didn't think it would work but I had read about it and it supposedly worked.
We on the forum were actually waiting for.........someone....ummm.....to a .......um ....actually try it.

Geezz giddonah! Real subtle, real subtle.:)
I will be taking down an outside chimney in the near future but if it was an inside one I would definitely try at the bottom.

Where is your sense of discovery.
It's been beaten into submission by my sense of "learn from others".
