Hi – I need some advice. I want to hang a 12’ galvanized 1 5/8 “ tube gate (gate is about 4’ high) that weighs about 50 lbs. The gatepost is 4” diameter galvanized and can be cut to any length I want. I was planning to dig the gate post hole to a depth of 24” with a 10” diameter and fill the hole and the post with concrete. I ran into ledge rock about 12” down.
Here is my question: Can I dig a larger diameter posthole to compensate for the shallower post hole depth? If so, how much larger? Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
