Hi,
Anybody have any advice on a quick way to level a stair tread. Our house is an old semi that has settled over the years away from the party wall. The stair (which runs up the shared wall side) is a little sloped (probably 1/2" height change across width). This is not such a huge issue that I feel like rebuilding the whole stair, but I was wondering if there is a way I can add a new finish tread surface to the existing tread and level the new tread at the same time? The stair is closed tread with the tread routed into the stringers. The underside of the stair is not closed up.
Has anyone tackled anything like this or does everyone else bite the bullet and rebuild the stair?
Thanks

Only thing I can think of without actually seeing it, - - is to 'de-tach' the whole (inside) stringer, - - top and bottom, - - add a 1/2" shim or block underneath, - - and re-attach, - - then shave the extra 1/2" level off the top. Sounds easy from my house.

Wouldn't work in my place, but the theory is sound...

Thanks guys
I think detaching the stringer would constitute a bit more work than I can justify given the fact that it is more of an annoyance rather than a major issue. I'll take a fresh look at it when the reno gets to that part of the house.
