hi all,

Let me start by saying this site has been a great help on info for this project. i have learned much at this site just lurking. Having this site to gather info has helped me to observe what the subs are doing without being in the way and being a p.i.a by asking stupid questions
Thanks

I just wanted to share some pics of our new construction. We purchased 4.5 acres this summer and decided to build our dream house. We have a custom house builder friend that is letting us work very close without being the gc on this house. The house is 7 weeks in, and we our getting excited with how this project is coming together. The specs of the house are 1758 sq ft exec ranch with aprox 1000 sq ft in basement finsihed, 3 car garage. we are 600 ft + off the road so we will see how the first winter goes with my lack of snow removal gear :( but we very happy with how close we are tied with the subs and the builder on this project, our last house we built was a spec house and the builder and subs just worked around us on issues.

Thanks guys,

This project has such a good experiance for us, It is amazing to me that the first week of july the house was 4 stakes in the ground :)
Every step has been great working with the subs, they have taken great care in their work and it has been top notch!
They have been putting the siding on and started insulating and should start drywall this week.

here are some newer pics.

Cost Cost Cost! Just kidding!!!!!!!!!

We were looking at cedar siding and some other options, then we decided to finish the basement (approx 1000 sq ft) so that upgrade took some out of the main project, plus we decided the upkeep on wood was something we just did not want to deal with, We have worked our fingers to the bone on every house we have had, we just want to sit back and enjoy this one

From the pics everything looks great and it seems as though it is coming together very quickly. I'd say you are very lucky to have a gc as a friend in order to get good and responsilbe subs. I see a lot of people around here that are trying to build themselves a house and the project is just dragging on and on. I drive by one every day on the way to and from work and i have seen virtually no progress. I think the homeowner is doing a lot of their own work and i rarley see them there at night anymore. I bet they wish they had a friend like yours to help them a little here and there. I glad to hear about someone's exprinces are going well. Congrats.

We are done and moved in. :) :) :)
We are very happy with are finished project. I have read many stories of people having issues with GC's subs, etc, we were very lucky that ours went so well. The builder and the subs took great pride in their craftsmanship building and working on our house like it was their own. :) I want to thank this site and the people who helped with decisions and support on this project, there are many areas on this site with a wealth of info. I learned a lot from this. Keep up the good work on this site you are all great.
