OK, so I'm renting a concrete plunge saw, chainsaw type, which I didn't even know there was. Took a look at their website http://www.icsbestway.com and wow, anybody ever use one of these bad boys? Any tips (besides don't cut off my leg  )

Don't operate it alone

You know Sweep that is a VERY good point, I don't ever do much of anything without anyone else around (electrical, cutting, etc.) after an experience with a garage door opener spring a couple years ago while installing a simple garage door opener, I've learned a lesson.

I'd say no matter how hot and uncomfortable, wear heavy clothes and chaps. Good facemask and respirator and ear protection. I can't tell you how much easier a job is with good safety equipment. Aside from that, I'd say take it slow and steady stopping every min or so to check your progress.

Our fire department has one of those. They claim that they can cut through anything with it. They got it mainly to cut smoke relief holes in BIR.
