What prices are reasonable for custom kitchen cabinets? I got a quote (in Western Montana) for $265 a linear foot, top and base cabinets, raised panel knotty pine, top drawers on base cabinets and varnished. This will not include countertops or installation.
I'm having a hard time getting other bids. Other cabinet makers are busy right now.
This seems steep to me, after all you can get China Depot ready-to-assemble cabinets for about $100 a linear foot.

Doesn't seem that steep to me. I've priced out the HD Mill's Pride (around $3000), KraftMaid (around $7000), and would expect custom quality cabinets to run $10,000 (using my kitchen as an example.) The proportions seem pretty similar.

Thanks bkrahmer, just wanted to make sure I wasn't being squeezed.

Thats definitely not too high. But I would suggest getting other bids of the same type you are interested in. By the way, Bkrahmer what did you end up doing for your kitchen cabinets?

Birch plywood casework....red oak face frames and raised panels

What would this run ? (I've got about 1000 bucks and 2 weeks in them, not counting tops )

When I get my 'temporary shop' (garage) done, I'm going to build my own. Hopefully, that will be in about two months. Maple face frames, shaker or similar style, baltic birch cases and drawers. My materials list will be close to $3000, thanks to my lumber yard employee prices.

Those are nice Andy. Do you build them entirely yourself?
Bkrahmer, good luck. Are you living in your new house?

Valent,

Yeah...self built. For one of my rental houses.

I built a set or two a year either for myself or someone else. Wouldn't wanna do it ( or anything really....ahahahaha) all the time, but I enjoy it on an occassionaly basis.

I need to raise my prices.

My custom built-on-the-wall cabinets run anywhere from $100 to $150 a foot, depending on what they are. and the quality of any of them surpasses anything you can purchase at HD or Lowes or anywhere else. I've run the numbers a million times and my profit margin is exceptionally good.
