Have an issue with standing water around my driveway and garage door. We have cut a French drain next to our house, but the water around the entrance of our garage on our drive way is still a problem. When it rains the rainwater ends up warping the bottom ends of the garage door frames. Over time, they have just rot out. I can have the ends replaced, but the rain isn’t going away any time soon. What do I do?

I can see two solutions.
1. Fix the damaged wood and waterproof the bottom 6" of your garage.
2. Give the water somewhere else to go.
#1 would be easier, but eventually it'll wear off (unless you make some kind of plastic/mechanical watter barrier/dike) and you'll be dealing with it again. #2 is harder, but more permanent and wouldn't you like to get rid of the puddles in front of your garage? You can either do this by channeling the water away at the surface, or installing a drain and carrying the water away underground.

Debra – you have a couple of options. 1.) cut a bigger French drain 2) replace your door frame in your garage and leave the ends a few inches short or 3) get yourself a frame that repels water. Call the folks in Nacogdoches, Texas – FrameSaver at 800-599-9349 or check them out online.
