View Full Version : Insulation in Corners?

Hey guys, my framing is coming up faster than I can do something about lack of insulation at the corners where one wall is tied to another perpindular wall causing a "trapped" uninsulated volume. There's two other corners that has 1/2" gap on the inside and there's at least four corners that has fairly tight corners on the inside. In addition to this I have two bays with the same situation. I hope what I'm saying makes sense.
I wished that I could stuff rigid foam boards in those unfilled area. I've thought about getting cans of foam spray stuff but the thought of bowed studs scare me. Any suggestions here? BTW, I'm at 2nd floor framing now! It's tough being an owner-builder but I'm hanging on though! Thanks.

We just used the spray foam insulation in all the cracks after the framing was finished. they have the non-expanding type that is used around doors if you are worried about and bowed studs. I don't think it will be a problem anyway.

OK, but the amount of volume that I was referring to is 2x6x9 so that's alot of foam! I'm hoping that there are ways to fill in this area that cannot be reached by insulation subs using fiberglass batts. Any more recommendations are appreciated.
Dear Mike D
I loved your work with the Beastie Boys.
You could always consider wet-spray cellulose or a blown-in-blanket system (BIBS). Make sure you get the cellulose dry enough before you poly, and if you are using the BIBS, use an air barrier.

I don't follow about my work with Beastie Boys?!? Maybe you are confusing me with someone else? Who/what are Beastie Boys?
Could wet-spray cellulose be applied thru small openings? Sorry for my ignorance, what is BIBS? Blown in batts?

BIBS - blown in blanket system. Kinda like blown in fiberglass for walls.
Why can't you just use spray foam? I hear they solved that bowed studs problem.

I ain't related! haha. Thanks for the tips.
For partition leads - you can use 2 studs instead of the typical 3. Instead of having a 2x4 lead - change it to a 2x6 and tie it to a stud (it's essentially a 2 stud outside corner).
