The baths in our house have textured ceilings that are flaking off. I have installed new exhaust fans (old ones no longer worked) . I'm going to scrape ceilings to remove old texturing. I don't know what I'll retexture with right now. what would you recommend to paint the ceilings with until I texture them.
Thanks

Just scrape them real well, sand them smooth, and put a good quality bonding/stain blocking primer on them. Then get the cheapest flat paint you can find and put that on. (Ceilings are the one place cheaper is better: the cheaper the paint the duller the sheen, and the less lines/imperfections it will show. Generally you don't want to draw attention to the ceiling.)

Or, if you're concerned about moisture on the ceiling, put on a good quality eggshell type paint.

Most houses I do don't have any texture on them anyway. It's considered "higher class" not to have texture.

Thanks Jhode, I might just stay flat and no texture on the ceilings and add a little class to th place.

Also, if you're seeing bare sheetrock paper where the texture is flaking off, THAT is one reason it is flaking off.

Texture is supposed to be sprayed over a coat of paint according to the directions on the bag (Imperial QT )....it sticks just fine anywhere joint compound was used, but on bare sheetrock paper, it flakes off easily....a little excess moisture makes it even easier.
