View Full Version : Problem w/drain pipe on footing?

Due to excavation difficulties, I decided I would run the perimeter drain tile (perf pipe) on top of the footing. I realize it would have been preferable to have it beside the footer, but I have occassionally seen it on top and the code only said the bottom of the slab had to be above the top of the pipe (it will be). Also it's a mono-pour footer/wall so I have no seams. This is my last opportunity to try and break up the bedrock in a few places to make it fit beside the footer. Is it worth the effort? There will be nothing but crushed rock between the slab and bedrock. Thanks.

If the top of the pipe is below the bottom of the slab there should be an advantage to placing it lower. It is often placed beside the footing because slabs are often placed directly on the footing when the footing has been poured separately.

I spent the day yesterday making room (breaking rock) to put the pipe beside the footing. I also found an area nearby to dig a dry well, which the inspector said I needed. I guess I now have the option of putting the slab directly on the footing, but I think I'll still put it higher. Plus from what I remember, there's a bit of a hump in the bedrock in the interior. And I think I'll insulate below the slab, which brings it up another inch or two.
