I am currently laying outthe floor for my woodworking shop. The floor will only consist of 3/4" t&g OSB. Is there more strength with OSB depending on which face is down? I would prefer the smooth side up as it's cleaner and less likely to flake off with traffic use.

The smooth side should be up.. I think. It's been awhile since I've used T&G OSB.

If you didn't already lay out your floor, you might want to consider TIG plywood. If you check out the recommendations of the manufacturers, you'll find that the OSB is more oriented toward carpeting. The TIG plywood gives you more options for future coverings and it looks a lot nicer.
I just installed a workshop floor in the loft area of my 3 car garage and I'm very pleased with the results. It comes with one side sanded.
Good luck!

I would think cost would be the determining factor right now. Plywood (any kind) has gone off the charts for price. OSB doesn't seem to be as affected but it's still gone up some.
