I have a 21 x 21 4" concrete slab coming off what use to be my two car garage. The garage has been converted to a game room with a sliding door opening to the 21 x 21 slab. I want to put 4/12 prefab trusses over the slab coming of the front of the house for a cover cook out area. My ideal is to use 8x8 treated post with a 2x8 band going around the top. What do you think and how should I put them in the ground?
Thanks in advance.

A lot depends on where you live. It sounds like a drive shed or pole barn. If you live in a frost area you should sink the posts below the frost line. Some guys concrete them in place. Some pour a pier so it extends above ground then attach you post to that. I've seen frost lift corners of things built like that. I would run a double set of 2x8 around the top perimeter (one on either side of the post). I would also use some diagonal bracing as well. I've seen cable and turnbuckles used well in this type of thing.
